USERRA

USERRA protects people who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces, Reserves, National Guard or other "uniformed services." According to 38 U.S.C. § 4301, the federal law is intended to ensure that these individuals:

  • Are not disadvantaged in their civilian careers because of their service
  • Are promptly re-employed in their civilian jobs upon their return from duty
  • Are not discriminated against in employment based on past, present or future military service

Veterans' Preference Laws

The Minnesota VPA gives most veterans limited preference over nonveterans in public employment positions in Minnesota. This means veterans are given preference in hiring and promotion. Additionally, veterans are granted a hearing against wrongful terminations, demotions and other adverse actions.

If you are a veteran who is returning to Minnesota, you might have questions about employment, re-employment and other employment law matters. We proudly represent veterans and look forward to assisting you.
